found my self a great board game actually a re-release of arkham horror by fantasy flight games.
if you like cthullu you will like this game, its kind of call of cthullu light for up to 8 players you have to save arkham from various beasties mind numbing horror's and the rising of a great old one. It wasn,t cheap but it is a great looking game with lots of re playability and even two add-on's the curse of the dark Pharaoh and the dunwich horror wich i am intending to pick up soonish. if you like board games at all fantasy flight are worth checking out they specilise in re-packaging @ redesining old games.

this evening i had one of those magical perfect moments. I was walking through the the streets near the top of bath it was almost eerily quiet i had seen anyone for several minutes when a brass section nearby started up with a lovely tune i didnt recognise and for the next few minutes this continued.

my words in no way capture the feel of this but i rarely find it easy to verbalise these small gems of beauty in my head

on more mundane maters saw silent hill to night not bad liked the non typical ending and did you know that there are now atleast eight hellraiser movies eeep

just had a nice long talk about physics, religion and man's [oh alright then woman's as well{I dont know you will all be wanting to vote next}} potential unfortunately we didnt hold out much hope for people.

I do find it hard to take every day life seriously in the face of eternity, as this week they say we have an expanding universe.

The song said the future is so bright we are going to need shades not true if this model continues to hold up, we will need light's and lots of them eventually it will be a cold and dark sky everywhere as the big bang continues to cool and dissipate. I wonder if any life will arise then will they be looking back at the bright but long dead milkyway.

i must admit this idea comes from thinking about some scifi i have read in this last couple of years. one was about mankind being stuck in the middle of a war between two ancient civilisations from the bigbang, and a set of short stories about how man might evolve in the distant future. i cant remember the authors name's just now but i will look it up this weekend and post it if it's any help one of them also wrote a book called moonseed

the fun bit will be if we survive that long how would they perceive us what do you think demons or gods

did you know that thanking someone for being lazy counts as bullying these days. admittedly i wrote it in big letters on squares of paper that filled one wall of the room.

so i am waiting to see what h&r has to say although the general feeling amongst the other staff was that it was both true and funny.

Just in case i am going to look for a fallback job

mind you it would almost be worth it for the look on the managers face when i admitted it, i think he expected me to lie about it but when others have ripped into the same man in front of lots of witnesses using all kinds of language they have been told not to do it in front of people.I feel my crime? was not that bad

you can now have your very Neil in post card form be the envy of your friend's, hold late night darts matches, or use it in your weird religious services.

a old flat mate of mine owns a photography studio in bath his business partner took some shots of me. I just found out they had one of them turned into a post card. how scary is that i could be a souvenir of someones holiday.

you can see the picture on their web site www.paulandpaul.co.uk

just read the bit about space catapult i was recently watching form the earth to the moom HBO i am sure that somewhere in it someone talks about the concept if you have enough speed you dont have to be pointing straight up to escape the earth's orbit it's all about escape velocity, but saying that you would want to make sure the hymalayas aren't in the way before strapping youre self in.

also thanks for the bit on the trees

any day you learn something new you forget something middle aged

weathers that good down here i am taking a long weekend thurs fri
i am going to try and finish a chaos despolier i have been customising that and a a couple of squads and i will have enough to actually play a game of 40k. it will do me good to out occasionaly.

my flat mate has just started a akido class in bristol much jealosy i am on a 1pm 9pm shift at the hospital which is great in may ways well not having to get up at 7am is a biggie, it does mean that i cant do much through the week and i have not found a class at the weekend i like the look of.

on another note i want to sugest a film for your entertainment Night Watch a russian supernatural action film. highest takings for a russian film in russia since the colapse of the u.s.s.r . way cool think underworld but made by russians and good the small budget does show occasionaly but it dosn't matter also only watch the cinema version what they did with the subtitles makes this worth watching

in reply to coment,s

I to am not alltogether sure that we will make it my self

i think in the short term getting colonys started off world inside the solar sytem in space or on the moon or other terestrial planets is the vital first step.

i have read about various ways of living in space or on other worlds. My favorite ideas from scifi are the biological solutions modified giant red woods and world rings ( a ring of plant life like the rings of jupiter] from The hyperion Cantos or the bitek constructs from the Reality disfunction series. neither of these is imposible but beyond us at the moment mind you it would be quite cheap to try and grow a tree in orbit just now apart from resuplying it with water it would be intersting to see what happend to it i dont think trees need oxygen to grow?

as for the rest of our galaxy unless physics comes up with some way round light speed it would be realy slow. as a worst case we could always send out protiens and dna and hope some of it lands on something like a promrdial earth admitedly this is a realy long term aproach. or send out libraries full of our knoledge and culture so that there is a chance we will be remembered by something or maybe help others avoid the worst of our mistakes.

thakns to the academy and every one who replied it was great to hear from you all hope you are all well
will email soonish

As i look at the world the more I think most human activity falls into the category of rearranging deck chairs on the titanic.

The world shows us signs everywhere that every 600 million years or so most life on earth is wiped out. So inevitably this will happen again it need not be one big asteroid strike it could just be one to many smaller events tipping the balance.

The only way to protect the species is to spread out initially the solar system and in the long term out in to our galaxy.

unfortunately we seem to be incabable of this kind of planing constantly distracted by ephemeral concerns created by our history and religions, most people seem not to be able to cope with the facts there is no great reason for any of our lives. The universe cannot care about us so we created god this was a trap that keeps us looking back for fixed and easy answers faith means not having to think and not having to have any responsibility for anything it's all gods plan. and if it all goes wrong you have an afterlife to wake up in and continue to have no responsibility's for eternity.

This is rank cowardice

Survival of the species above all by any and all means.

any spelling mistooks are entirely the fault of {insert your excuse here ]
